The A/O P120 Sponge Sanding Roll is an aluminum oxide abrasive roll laminated with a foam layer. It is used for manual sanding, sanding block use, contour sanding, edge sanding, coating preparation, and surface finishing.
Aozhong supplies this A/O P120 Sponge Sanding Roll for distributors, abrasive converters, woodworking factories, automotive repair suppliers, and industrial users who need roll-format foam-backed abrasive material.
The working side uses aluminum oxide grain. The reverse side uses foam backing rather than hook and loop backing or PSA adhesive. The roll can be used directly by hand, wrapped around a sanding block, or converted into sanding pads and sheets.
P120 is a FEPA coated abrasive grade used for surface leveling, wood sanding, primer sanding, paint preparation, and sanding between process stages. FEPA P-grades are used for coated abrasives such as sandpaper and sanding rolls.
APPLICATIONS
A/O P120 Sponge Sanding Roll Applications
Aluminum oxide P120 sponge sanding roll is designed for medium surface preparation, hand sanding, edge finishing, and contour sanding before progressing to finer grits.
01
Woodworking & Furniture Preparation
Suitable for preparing wood-based surfaces before sealer, primer, paint, or other coating processes.
Wood sanding before coating
MDF and plywood surface preparation
Furniture edge sanding
Cabinet panel and veneer preparation
Manual sanding on profiles and contours
02
Automotive Repair & Paint Preparation
Used for medium sanding stages where controlled surface leveling is required before finer refinishing steps.
Putty and body filler sanding
Primer surface preparation
Feather-edge sanding before refinishing
Old coating preparation
Preparation before finer-grit sanding
03
Edges, Profiles & Curved Workpieces
The sponge backing adapts to shaped surfaces and helps maintain more even sanding pressure during hand operations.
Furniture edges and corners
Door frames and mouldings
Curved wooden components
Plastic trims and shaped parts
Sanding block applications
04
Metal, Plastic & Composite Preparation
Suitable for controlled surface preparation before coating, bonding, painting, or subsequent finishing processes.
Metal surface preparation
Plastic component sanding
Composite material sanding
FRP and fiberglass surface preparation
Coating adhesion preparation
05
Abrasive Converting & Custom Processing
The roll format supports flexible conversion into practical sanding consumables for distributors, workshops, and OEM abrasive programs.
P120 is generally used for medium sanding, surface leveling, and preparation before moving to finer grit stages. It is more suitable for controlled preparation than final polishing or ultra-fine finishing.

How It Works
The aluminum oxide abrasive layer removes material from the workpiece surface. The foam layer acts as a pressure buffer between the abrasive and the workpiece.
When sanding curved edges, contoured surfaces, protrusions, recesses, and irregular workpieces, foam-backed sanding rolls conform more closely to the workpiece’s contours than flat sandpaper.
The foam backing also reduces direct pressure concentration from the operator’s hand or the sanding block. This helps minimize edge cutting and indentations during manual sanding.
P120 is typically used after coarse sanding and before fine sanding. It can be used for primer preparation, leveling wood surfaces, sanding painted surfaces, and removing sanding marks left by coarse-grit sandpaper.
